Biomedical Technical Training

The Medical Room’s biomedical technical training courses equip learners with the essential knowledge and skills to safely and effectively support medical devices. These courses delve into the clinical application, common features and engineering design, performance verification, and maintenance requirements of the device types covered.

The courses are vendor-neutral and include practical hands-on training sessions. Learners will practice biomedical electrical safety testing, performance testing, and basic maintenance of medical devices on a variety of makes and models.

The courses consist of theory delivered primarily via e-learning, followed by a practical face-to-face session (duration varies from ½ day to 5 days). 

Our Biomedical Technical Training courses include: 

• Biomedical Electrical Safety Testing to AS/NZS 3551
• Routine annual testing of patient areas to AS/NZS 3003
• Performance verification of medical equipment with dedicated biomedical test equipment 
• Health & Safety whilst supporting medical equipment
• Relevant Documentation & Legislation including the relevant Australian & New Zealand Standards
• Understanding of the hazards that medical equipment poses and the importance of patient safety. 
• Relevant physiology 
• Engineering design and clinical application of medical & dental equipment
• Periodic maintenance requirements and common corrective maintenance for relevant medical device types. 

Upon completion of our biomedical technical training, learners will understand the theoretical and operational aspects of the equipment. They will be able to perform biomedical electrical safety testing and performance verification testing to current standards, apply fault-finding techniques, and effectively conduct periodic maintenance (servicing) and corrective maintenance procedures.
